Michael Erwin’s grandfather (lovingly called Grandpa) was a kind man of great character and strength, loved and admired by all who knew him, especially Michael. When Michael was young, he would rummage through his grandfather’s things. There was one item that his grandfather always carried in his pocket, that caught Michael’s curiosity over and over – a Buckeye nut. Michael, who grew up in Kentucky, had never seen a Buckeye nut. They grow into trees in Illinois where his grandfather grew up. Michael’s grandfather told him that the Buckeye would bring prosperity and luck.
So many years have passed since Michael first uncovered his grandfather’s Buckeye. Now, Michael carries his grandfather’s original Buckeye nut as a reminder of the strength he inherited from his grandfather.
BELIEVE – Stroke Recovery Foundation gifts stroke survivors a Buckeye nut as a symbol of their strength. Carry the Buckeye with you as a reminder each day to be strong and Believe!
In loving memory of Herschel Victor Driskell (Grandpa)
